How did the Cross-curricular Days start?
Cross-curricular Day was first started by Mr Prytherch. He wanted to do something different to normal lessons so he asked me to organise it and I agreed. Mrs Scales organised the first one, then I took over for the next three.
How do you go about organising the day? Do students come to you with ideas for workshops?
I start by asking people, and phoning them up, to come in and do the workshops. I have asked the students which kind of workshops they would like and have tried to organise them.
What are the most difficult and enjoyable things about organising these days?
The most difficult part of the day is getting people to co-operate with each other, but the most enjoyable thing is seeing the students enjoying the workshops.
Does it cost a lot to put on these days? How does the school fund the activities?
Most of the activities don’t cost anything. The most expensive one is East Barnby which costs £25. It’s quite expensive, but it’s worth it. The school pays for the rest of the activities, which is very generous. The students pay towards some of the workshops.
Which workshops have proved the most successful?
One of the workshops that has been most successful has been the Konflux Theatre group because the director, Mark Hayes, is excellent at his job.
When you get feedback from the students in their evaluations, how does this help you with your organisation of the next Cross-curricular Day?
I see what they enjoy the most and put up students’ views in the entrance hall for other people to look at.
