At the start of Key Stage 3 the majority of Eskdale students will have
reached at least Level 4 in history. By the end of Key Stage 3 most of
our students should be within the range of Levels 4 – 7.
Levels 5 – 6 are the target for 14 – year olds.
Level 8 is the standard reached by very able students.
Use this checklist to assess the level you have reached.
Change and situations
Level 4
I can talk, draw and write about the periods studied. I can describe
events, people, changes and features.
Level 5
I can describe and understand the past in more detail, and I am starting
to show how changes and other aspects of the topics are linked.
Level 6
I can use my knowledge to describe features and changes and I can show
similarities and differences between periods and countries.
Level 7
I can link what I know in outline and use this knowledge to identify how
differing features of the past are related. I can use this knowledge to
investigate and comment on reasons and results.
Level 8
I can use my outline and detailed knowledge to analyse links between
events, people and changes. I can explain reasons for and results of
changes and events.
Causes and Consequences
Level 4
I can provide several reasons for an event happening and I can describe
its results.
Level 5
I can show that some reasons or results of an event may be connected.
Level 6
