ENGLISH
Quote of the month
“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below”
John McCrae 11/11/06
English is a many faceted subject, with something there for everyone, be it reading, writing or speaking and listening. The opportunities are endless in developing individual strengths and talents.

Bully Week 15th - 19th November
Eskdale School has been aware of bullying this week, and the subject has been discussed in English. Interesting enough there are 2 types of bullies, (according to Dan Olwells). The first is the Aggressive Bully (the majority being in this group). The second (which tends to include mainly adults) is the most disturbed group. They are anxious and aggressive, have low self-esteem, insecure and friendless, provoke attacks by other bullies, are emotionally unstable and pick on "unsuitable" victims (i.e more powerful than them). An assembly on bullying , took place on Friday 19th November.

Also, an Indian Dance company will visit school in April 2011 to work with Year 7. Both of these activities address Ofsted's suggestion that students should experience other cultures and traditions. G.C.S.E. English focused on a unit of Poetry from other cultures.
